E-Stim Safety

October 30, 2009

A Few Words on Safety

Electrostimulation is widely used for physical therapy and medical purposes. TENS units, for example, are often sent home with physical therapy patients for regular, and sometimes long term use. Our products use the same well proven bipolar waveform technology that’s used in medical devices such as most TENS and EMS units. Devices designed for erotic use have also been in use for over 15 years with few reports of serious problems.

E-stim, however, isn’t without risks and isn’t for everyone. E-stim devices are NOT for use by or on anyone with implanted electronic devices (i.e. pacemakers, defibrillators, drug pumps, etc.), heart problems, heart disease, epilepsy, brain disorders, nervous system disorders, a history of strokes or seizures, or similar medical conditions.  Pregnant women, women who might be pregnant or anyone under the age of 18 should also not use any e-stim device. If you have any doubts or questions, you should contact ErosTek and a qualified physician before using any e-stim products.

It’s important to keep the path of current away from the heart, neck and head areas. The general guideline is: “Keep it below the waist.” Our equipment is intended for use with electrodes and accessories designed for safe electrostimulation. Always follow the accessory manufacture’s instructions as well as those that come with our products. Body piercings, or other contacts with similarly small surface area, should not be connected to any electrostimulation equipment. Always read and follow all the safety information included with e-stim devices.

ErosTek products incorporate additional features not found in many competing products that enhance safety such as symmetrical bipolar waveforms and fully isolated outputs. We use fail safe measures in our circuitry to limit the output even if a component should fail. We also limit our waveform duty cycle to minimize the energy dissipated in the body. Our products incorporate an automatic self-test that checks critical circuits every time you turn them on. We take safety seriously but ultimately e-stim safety is in the hands of the user.

If you have any doubt about the risks associated with e-stim, consult a physician and SexTek Support before purchasing or using our products.
